“Paul successfully created a safe and supportive space for group members to share difficult or stressful work experiences and provide reflection on the experiences of others. His guidance and insight were invaluable to the group’s success”.

Organisational and Community Group Work Practice

This is a specialised service I offer to organisations and communities or community groups that are experiencing difficulties with change or development. I work with the conscious and unconscious aspects of organisational life through a group analytic lens in order to tease out some of the challenges and enable the client to think about things in a more psychologically informed way. This can enable the organisation or community to effect its change in a more cohesive way.

I work with the client in a collaborative manner designing the best approach that meets their needs. Examples of processes that are effective in this arena and have produced lasting results are:

  • Reflective Practice Groups

  • Support Groups

Reflective Practice Groups

A reflective practice group is for people who are engaged in the same current practice, be it work or education, and offers a space to share, learn, reflect and build relationships. It is important to note that this is not a therapy group. The Group is a safe space for members to talk about their own experience of the practice they are engaged in, allowing feedback and discussion from and with their peers. Through this practice of reflecting on the work, members and organisations can gain insight and begin to work through any difficulties that may emerge by putting language on the process they engage in.

These groups are offered as short term (usually weekly for 12 weeks) or more long term as required. The needs of the organisation can be discussed in a planning meeting with me in advance of beginning the work.

Support Groups

A support group provides space for individuals to share their experiences and challenges of a specific issue, condition or shared interest. These groups provide a supportive and safe space for people to speak about their feelings, seek advice and offer support to one another.

Support groups can be beneficial for people dealing with a wide range of issues from mental health, grief and loss, chronic illness and more. They offer a place to be understood, listened to and where people can gain insights into their own issue through the shared experience of others.

These groups are usually long term and regular.

I have experience in facilitating groups for:

  • Students

  • Lawyers

  • Charity Organisations

  • Senior Management Teams
